2000 V70 - Aux Audio In?

Post by Nathan »

I have a 2000 V70 and I would like to install a 1/8th inch jack in it to play my mp3 player. I really do not want to fork over the cash for the dealer to do this. The factory tuner has controllers for a multidisc changer, that i do not have. Is it possible to pull out the head unit and attatch to the changer line and then mount a 1/8th inch jack on it?

Or do you know of a better way?

USA Spec makes an iPod adapter that also has inputs for RCA cabling. You can get a mini plug (1/8 inch) to RCA lines and run it in that and it connects up to the din jack (CD changer) on the back of your head unit. It works very nicely! Look over on the V70/850 section and at the top there is a sticky thread on the ipod adapter. Info is in there. Otherwise you might try the audio section of www.volvospeed.com Believe someone there makes a cable for this purpose.

USA SPEC is also selling an interface that has only the RCA jacks and no iPod functionality. It is significantly cheaper and will do what you need. It is designed for MP3 players, DVD players, handsfree phone adapters, etc.

Frankly, I like the iPod interface, but if you don't have/want an iPod, then the basic interface is for you.

Thanks for the tip on ways to get my ipod to work with my OEM deck. I checked the USA spec site at http://www.usaspec.com/compatibility/index.html and it doen't look like they make the Aux only unit for the S80. Do you know if the fancier PA11 VOL will take a 1/8" jack so it is compatible with other mp3 players as well, or will it only take the ipod input?

I just bought a 2000 s70 and was going thru the same process. My local stereo shop does install a 2.5 mm jack, but it was suggested before spending the $$ to go out and buy a cassette adapter. It plugs into your IPOD etc and then into the casette player. Your Ipod will then play thru your car stereo system. I bought one for $15 and it seems like the easiest solution. Most store selling Ipods also sell these casette adapters.

I've used a cassette adapter and was not impressed with it at all...that's why I went to the USA-Spec adapter. I know that the adapter will do RCA inputs to it and from there to the Volvo head unit on SC-8xx units. For the HU units the later model, PA-11 works fine. You can check out www.ipduas.com and click on the P2 Volvo's to see. IPD also sells the USA-Spec adapter but with it a DVD with instructions on how to install it. For this, a bit of a mark-up.

Ask this guy, he can build one for you.Cheapest you can find.

Cost me 20$ because I built it myself with the chip already programmed by Drlava.

Our radios (SC-816) need a special code from the disc changer to enable the audio inputs and that's what inside this chip. You need a special connector that look like a PS2 mouse port but it's not exactly the same configuration. Drlava should have some anyway....

Good luck!
