96 965 what happens if you try to put an SC-901 in?

Well, for one thing, it won't come out. That's bad.

For another, it won't function. Very Bad.

So, I'm stuck. Literally. I can't afford to disassemble the console now (and it has that nice fake wood trim that is in excellent condition anyway) and now I have no tunes.

So, next time you say to yourself, "hey, I've got this extra stereo hanging around, maybe it will work in..." Don't do it.

Well, to solve my own dilemma, here is the culprit: there is a slight, extra piece of sheet metal on the underside of the 901 that extends back maybe 4cm from the face. This part gets caught on the plastic of the 960 mount and prevents extraction. A putty knife inserted below the face aids in extraction. Phew~!

And, the experiment was for naught: the 901 will not work without an amp anyway in this car.

There's an eBay seller that was selling amp bypass looms for 960s. I fitted one to my 960 so I could bypass the amp and fit an aftermarket unit in its place.
