Recently the arrow on the dashboard (which usually means the car is in a low gear has started blinking-non stop whe the car is running). The DTC is 1618. Does anyone know what this indicates? If I am driving the car in a low gear, will it kill it?
I live in arural area and don't want to make the trek or pay the dealer for the repair.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Moving this to the S40 section. If you look up P1618 on google you get a ton of different meanings for it. Anywhere from glow plug errors to disconnected signals to heater issues. I would see if you could reset the code and see if it comes back. Don't drive it, like JRL said until you completely figure it out...could also be the PnP switch like he mentioned- the arrow on the dash is fairly consistent with this issue.
