1996 850 Rear door warning light

Post by samking »

Hello, apologies in advance if this is a trivial kind of a problem -- blame it on my OCD :) . My right rear door warning light does properly light up when any of the other three doors are open (as it should) but does not come on when the right rear door itself is open. Nor do the other three door warning lights come on when the right rear door is open. (So I know the bulb works fine and it seems to be a problem with the switch or sensor that senses the open/shut status of the right rear door.) Any suggestions on how to fix it d.i.y. are welcome! There is a previous post on a similar problem but I didn't find a concrete solution there. Thanks!

The sensor is in the latch assembly. Try spraying some WD-40 in it.

Thanks for your reply, rspi. I tried spraying the WD-40 into the latch assembly (without taking apart the door panel, just into the area that is accessible with the door open) but that didn't seem to fix it. Appreciate your reply all the same.

Maybe the micro switch in the latch is bad. You can remove the latch and try to fix it or replace the match with a used one. Used latched sell between $20 - $30 at most salvage yards.
