94 940 Won't start
I just got done removing the engine and got it back in. It ran fine when I put it back in and I let it idle in the driveway for a while. I even drove it around my property and it drove fine. I decided to go to the parts store to get some parts and test it out. It ran fine all the way, about 10 miles. I went inside, came back out and pointed out the part I needed, went back in a came back out to drive home but it wouldn't start. It cranks and every once in a will run and back fire but it won't catch. I'm guessing the fuel is working and the spark, I also checked the timing. But what else can I do? The diagnostic codes say check the fuel injectors and/or fuel pressure.. Does that sound right? Why all of a sudden won't it run.. Any suggestions?

I own a 1993 960 in Sweden and a 1993 960 in Texas (as a summer car) so I have much 960 experience. Recently I purchased a 1993 940 and I am sorting out all poblems. Here is what I know:
Make sure the positive connecion at the battery is good. Check all cable connections specially the ones that connect from the bottom and are held in place by plastic fastners. The plastic ages and no longer hold the cable and you get an intermitting connection. That happen to my Texas 960. Three Volvo dealers wanted to spend thousands of dollars for this and that. Their computer said this and that was faulty.
Note: When a car does not start for even a simple reason then the fuel pump and other things will read faulty even though they are perfect. It has been said that 80% of the faults you an see. Case in point, Anothe time my 960 would not start until I used start gas and even then I got black smoke. The crankshaft sensor plastic connection on the fire wall just fell apart and lost connction. In a hot climate Volvo plastic connections crumble due to wear and age.
I am certain that you have a loose sensor connection.

After I posted this I found the RPM Sensor bad. I repositioned the wires and it started and ran. The wiring harness had worn and I taped it up but I guess I had a short or something. Anyway got it running again. I ordered a new one...
