1997 850 Passenger seat manual recline?

Post by davolvo »

Hi, my passenger seat moves forward and backward but how the heck does one get it to recline or doesn't it recline? We must be missing something.

I guess that you're talking about manual seats. You have a big plastic wheel at the right side of the seat...the little one at left is for firmness & smoothness.

misha is 100% correct. 2 turn wheels usually on sides of backrest. Larger one for backrest tilt, smaller one for lumber support adjustment.

Yeah, I get the lumbar wheel, but doesn't the seat itself recline or does the passenger always have to sit upright?

The large one reclines the seat, it's a BIG KNOB.

Check both seats. Perhaps someone has broken the adjuster knob off one. There should also be a seat base rake adjustment (not sure if fitted to all seats) which is a lever on the side of the seat on the door side. Pull the lever up and it allows the seat to adjust the rake.

Again, if you can't figure this out, take a photo of both sides (not front and back) of the seat and post them. Do you have seat covers fitted over the originals that may be covering the knob?
