DUH, I had 98 on my mind. You do need the speed sensor on transmission. The wires on your car run to the cluster.
The clutch pedal cruise switch and vacuum bleed "switch" info is valid.

So as far as pins 7 and 6 go; what do I physically have to do there to fool the ECU? What do I connect those pins to after I pull the autotragic out?

Just tie the green/red and the green wires (pins 6 and 7) together to complete the circuit to the starter. That is probably easiest done at the PNP switch end of the cable if you plan on leaving the PNP connector in the car.
Shorting those two wires together mimics the car always being in park or neutral so that the starter will turn over.
From the factory there wasn't any starter interrupt on the clutch and it is possible to crank the car with the clutch engaged and the car in gear. That "feature" actually saved me when I ate the throwout bearing 250 miles from home. I was able to stop at red lights and let the car die and then crank it with the car in 1st and it would start again when the light turned green. I'm sure the starter was a little PO'd about it, as were the people that were behind me, but I got home without a tow truck. The car will upshift fine without a clutch if you match the revs and decisively shove it into the next gear.

Thanks for those links, Matt. A couple of those were new to me and that first link was great.
Between you guys helping me in this thread and emailing Lucky I've got most of hard stuff figured out. A few hardware questions remain, however. First up is a question about the leather shifter cover and the center console trim.
In this diagram parts 3 and 4 seem to hold the leather cover down. If I get part # 4 can I use my existing center console (part # 3)?

The console plate (#3) is different. That plate will swap between the earlier consoles (pre '96) and the later consoles (96 and on) with a minor modification to top portion below the armrest. The plate is tough to find if you have woodgrain trim.

I'll have to find a manual console plate somewhere.
Any issue with reusing the flywheel and pressure plate bolts or should they be new?

Volvo says they should be new but they aren't stretch torqued so I just reuse them with some Loctite red. If I remember right those come off with a 12 pt socket.

Interesting swap and let's make sure we archive this puppy when done!
Lee..I had to do the limp home without clutch trick on the old family VW beetle, pre 1960. No synchs on the box, so you were luckily already trained on matching speeds of trans and engine.
