I was able to get the car running. After I cleared the original message I got a check engine light along with a engine service message. I re started the car two more times and everything cleared.

What the heck!!!! Now I am driving a car with it's own mind.

Moisture in the brain perhaps? Who knows.

Any input will be appreciated.

Any input into what may have been going on??? Could this have been related to the steering angle sensor???

You really need to connect a reader to the car to see the stored codes. Could be anything from moisture as you say to actual faulty components that are beginning to fail.

Thanks. I had my indie try to pull the codes but it wouldn't let him access the system. I am taking it to my local dealer Monday morning.

My Indie tried to read the engine codes but claims the ECU would not give him any information so
he said the ECU is NG. The car drives and starts fine now but just to be sure I am taking it to Volvo to do a complete diagnostic. I don't buy the bad ECU conclusion.

I did have the PS reservoir replaced just 2 days prior to this event and did notice leakage from the hose and some residue under the ECU. Could this have caused the problem? Perhaps some fluid got into the connector???

I doubt the fluid got into the connector. PS fluid doesn't generally crawl against gravity that quickly. You can purchase an ECM/TCM removal tool from IPD Volvo and clean that connector area quite easily or the dealer may do this if you mention it.

It's more than likely the ECM is fine if the car starts OK. The ABS system usually requires a dedicated reader for diagnostics such as Vida/Dice.

The dealer should be able to see some stored codes. There are Chinese clone versions of Dice with Vida software on eBay so once this is sorted getting hold of one for future Volvo ownership can be a good idea.
