1997 850 Sedan wiper rest position variable
I have removed, tightened and lubed the linkage on this vehicle now for the second time first at 111,000 and the second at about 200,000), but the wipers come to rest at a variable position. Thoughts on cures?

Bad wiper motor.

If the wiper shaft splines and linkages are all tight and gripping firmly it can only be wiper motor itself that is the problem as rspi has suggested above.

The wiper motor has a "home" switch inside
that cuts power to the motor after you turn
the wipers off and they reach their home position.
There could certainly be a problem with that switch,
but I'd take a closer look at all of the stuff that you
just had apart first.
