You will need to decide whether you want to walk away, rebuild that motor, or replace with a junkyard motor. Most people choose the latter, some the former, very few people choose the rebuild option as it can be close to the blue book value of the car.

remove the oil cap and have someone try and start the car, do you see the cam moving? if it is and you hear a wizzing sound then you jumped timing and have no compression in the motor due to bent valves. you can jump about 4 teeth before it starts to run weird, 5 teeth and you may not hear the valves smashing the pistons but the damage is done.

Sorry to read that your timing belt broke. If you can follow instructions there are some good tutorials out there to walk you through the head replacement.

Could you tell what made the belt break? Was any of the rollers damaged? Do you know how old the belt was?

Also, please let me know if it made any noise? I always tell people that it's a silent death.

I have a 1990 760 turbo, last week the air intake hose melted and I believe the melted rubber too was sucked into the turbo. My husband changed the hose, now it will start-Sometimes! Runs rough will cut off if you don't stay on the gas....and it will run (kinda) for 3 mins, at which point it doesn't matter how high you had it revved it will just stop...we took it for a test drive an hour ago we drove down the street, which is slightly sloped n turned around at the bottom...my husband gave it some gas to start back up the street n it got no power, almost sounded like it was in neutral then it made 5 or so fast short hisses... ss ss ss ss ss then it cut off
