1995 850GLT Timing belt rubbing

Use a rubber hose to isolate the noise to make sure it's the belt is whining and not the idler pulley.

They whine, grumble, then self- immolate...which takes out the rest of your engine when that happens.

2000 usd fix required after that

I can see that now that you pointed it out. The bad tensioner roller caused the belt to track a bit off of the camshaft pulleys but it didn't have a problem at the bottom. I haven't seen one rub the harmonic balancer before but my guess is that the water pump is askew. On this one I think I would change everything.
