Just curious if there is something about the AWD, tires, or other, but my S60 doesn't seem to like to coast on inclines that my 850 wagon (or MK2 Jetta) had no problem picking up speed on.
Once the hill gets steep enough, the speed ticks up pretty well.
It just took me by surprise on this one stretch of city driving that I could often coast a couple of miles in neutral on either of the older cars but the S60 needed a constant goosing of the accelerator.

You mean in N it doesn't go faster? Pehaps it has to do with the AWD system still turning

The AWD system on the cars with Haldex have negligible drag. The transmission does not freewheel in top gear. Customer complaints of jolts when throttle is released and then reapplied has caused carmakers to change some things in gearboxes. There is also fuel savings in having the engine coupled and the speed staying high enough on coast to keep injectors off so no fuel is burned. If the engine de-couples from wheels then the injection system has to fuel engine for it to idle. That sounds backwards but coasting above engine idle speed is a condition where injection shuts down and that is better for emissions and MPG. And then you have no overspeed of your cruise control if it is in use as another factor.
