So I've dug around a bit after being told that I apparently have a 'massive' (per the shop that I have my oil changed at) oil leak. I looked around and also found something that I have been having issues with over the past 25k or so - rough idle. Both of these being caused by a clogged up PCV / flame trap system.
My question is: Which kit should I get? FCP lists a kit for ~$110 and IPD has a similar kit (with more hosing) for ~$300. Which kit should I purchase? Is the extra crankcase vent hose on the IPD kit worth it? Do I need to change the intake manifold gasket? Where can I get a PCV hose clamp crimper (for the FCP kit)?
Thanks and best regards.

can't answer your questions, but good bet you'd also need to remove the oil pan. good chance the pcv oil passages inside the oil pan are also clogged so have to be cleaned. while there check the o-rings and clean any sludge.

There wasn't mention of sludge in the drained oil, if that helps any.
Also, didn't see it at first, but the IPD kit includes the intake manifold gasket as well - it just wasn't listed in the part number list.

Hi Alron400 here,
1 The works you need to do will relate to the Condition of all of the "Intake parts" and not just the breathing System or PVC System that is complicated to say the least.
2 I have now completed 2 (two) Old Volvo's an 850 '94 T5 Estate with 300,000 +++km and a 2000 V70 XC 2.4 Turbo with 220,000 km and from these I have learnt a lot about how all of this Venting Design has developed over the years.
3 The later V70 & XC70's have improved things a lot and at the same time made it a bit harder to resolve the issues. You do need to do the new Manifold Gasket and I would recommend the full cleaning of all parts of the Air Intake System as well (see attached Photos)
4 The small pipes can all become clogged with the Build Up of Sludge that Blocks any and all openings the Older the Car gets the more Sludge is Built Up.
5 My V70 XC was serviced well and had good Oil Change Intervals, but the Sludge Build Up was still there and had to be "Scrubbed Out of The Motor" using "Nulon Oil Flush", I do this on all of my cars every 80,000 km or so and it keeps the cars really fresh.
6 All of my Venting System did not need to be replaced and cleaned up really well with a lot of "TLC" and the cost was minimal at the end of the day.
7 Good Luck with what you decide to do, all I can say is that the Volvo's react real well to some "TLC"!
Catch you on the Open Road.
