Ignition Switch Connections?

Post by Gr8Scot »

NuB here, first time Volvo owner, I have a 1992 240 Wagon with 212,000+
miles.

Anyway here are my questions:

I was trying to replace the electrical part of my ignition switch (to cure what appeared to be the common problem of electrical gremlins) and in my ignorance I removed the rear cover to the wire terminations portion of the switch, instead of just pulling it away as I now know I should have done.

Of course the wires came out of the sockets and I now don't have a clue where they go. I looked at the Hanyes manual but the wiring diagrams in there are junk and don't apply to my year of car.

Could someone with a "green book" or a Bentley manual for a 1992 240 please tell me which wire goes to which terminal?

If that is possible, could you indicate which manual you looked at so that I can buy one with half way useable wiring diagrams?

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to ask, which manual did you use?

Thanks.

This was a Mitchell CD I bought on eBay UK some time ago. It was listed as "everything you need to know to repair your Volvo", but did not say that it was intended for US Volvos, nor that it was very limited in what it covered. It also covers several other makes of car.

However, I have now worked out the differences in the model year changes and find that it has some limited use for UK cars. The wiring diagrams are pretty good and easier to follow than those in Haynes.

Glad it helped you.
