I'm not confident with putting different injectors in the engine - I guess it would be OK if one adjusted the ecu or whatever is required.

I found a decent priced set on ebay from a european seller(bavarianwerke) which I will order. It's the safest bet and I will know that they are performing as they should.
Do not be afraid of different injectors. The ECU learns quickly and adjusts. Of course it will not be an illogically different sized injector.

I had changed my '96 turbo oranges as pictured above, with whites. The ECU will adapt to the flow rate without a problem.

My point being, as long as your MAF is good I have seen things fall into place with no problems.

I had changed the injectors in my '93 n/a to y/oranges,(Yellow orange from a '96 n/a.) and they also took all of five seconds to figure each other out.

Good to know, I didn't think it would adapt to that.
(How did you notice that actually? Did you check AF reatio or something else?)
But I don't plan on needing anything bigger, so there really is no reason not to use the original type. Maybe I'll get a new exhaust and a bit of an chip 'upgrade', but that is still in the future (still working on stage 0) and as it has an auto transmission I don't want to do anything crazy.

My ECU had a few things to realize actually.

I had also changed the intake manifold to a 3" n/a throttle body. Also a 3" Snabb air tube between the MAF and turbo.
N/A manifold on left. Substantially larger, even without the throttle body.

I know it learned quickly because it started on the first turn of the key, went to a slightly rough idle for no more than about 3 seconds, and then flattened to a perfectly smooth idle and threw no CEL.
