Hello All,
in attempting to replace the timing belt on my s60 at 180,000 miles I ran into problems removing the Crankshaft Pully Bolt with a 30mm socket. I wedged both of the top cams in place with marks aligned to the cover then pulled hard on the bolt to losed but no luck, infact I heard a bad noise (and a slip) in the engine when I did this and fear piston/valve damage. Now my top two marks do not line up, I cannot find the bottom mark on the crankshaft pulley, and now I cannot fully turn the engine from the pulley. Did I ruin the engine? is there anything I can do?
Thank you for any feedback.

Hi Chris, I grew up in Jersey - miss that place.
Yes,
Stop turning the motor and have it towed to a Volvo specialist or
Stop turning the motor and reset the cam crank alignment ( upload pics of all the marks as soon as you find them and mark them)(you will get much better help with pics -see "upload attachment "in blue below when making a response)
It sounds like you slipped the belt.
Get a bright flashlight and find the crank timing mark first. Use whiteout or a paint stick to mark it.
Search out Whiteblock timing marks on this site to see many examples of the little cut in the gear and the lump on the crank pulley flange.
Align the crank but turn only by hand. If you hit something or it gives resistance then stop.
You must not use the starter and you must have the spark plugs out or you may confuse the compression for hitting a valve to the head.
As you have learned , locking the cams is not the correct procedure for removing the crank pulley.
There is a hold down tool for this or some may say its ok to use 2 of the 4 bolts ( replaced with longer) on the pulley to hold a rod to counter act the turning force.
I zip them off with impact tools. make sure to soak it in good penetrating oil.( SiliKroil, PB Blaster etc)
Let us know where you are next and we will guide you.

Thank you, I understand and will attemp to reialign the cam marks. Funny, after I did this I was able to actually remove the crankshaft plate below the crankshaft pulley to remove the timing belt. It was very tight but I was able to snake it through to get it off and put the new one it. Wish I known this before. Oh well. thanks again and I will let you know how I make out with it. Chris.
