1996 volvo 850 glt no start

HI .
I just acquired this car volvo 850 glt and have not driven it on the road - problem is that it does not start but only starts up only when fuel is poured down the intake and it runs only until the added fuel is burned up - I did note that the fuel pump is running and fuel is being pumped to the fuel rail , did not check pressure though . Did not check if injectors are spraying , How do you check that the injectors are spraying ,because if you pull out the rail ,the injectors come loose ,and if you crank the engine the injectors will pop out of the rail . I also bought a 960 MAF sensor , does anyone know if that is compatible to the 850 , It was wrongly supplied and the retailer will accept it back due to it being an electronic item .
also runs with or with out the MAF sensor plugged in or not . Can any one advise me a way forward .

Post your part number of the MAF so someone can look that up for you.

You need to check the pressure at the rail next. If it isn't right, the engine won't run well or at all.

Putting raw gas into the intake is also bad for the cat so you should limit that to testing once.
