1999 s70 what would you offer

Post by clifford06 »

What would you offer for a 1999 s70 that has a blown headgasket ( water in oil ) ? Found one local (Buy here Pay Here Lot) on Craigslist asking $ 1500. I would never pay this , but it could be a good parts car. Body from pic seems straight . Sales rep said interior is normal wear, car was a "trade in", no repair history or documentation. I figure that they have a untrained inspection mechanic or they bought it from a "no touch, no hood lift auction" . Pics don' t show if its turbo or not , but asking opinions.

Thanks for your opinion. I feel about the same way. There a several non "headgasket blown" cars around here for about $ 1900- 2500 , that are running. . At the price they are asking , they are out to recoup their money or looking for a fool.

$0!

Personally i steer clear of the '99-2003 MYs, unless you're looking for a parts car..
1996 855T, 190K miles, N/A cams, N/A intake manifold & TB, do88 drop-in intercooler w/RIP, R ExMan, OBX_improved, green injectors, dw200, 18T w/7cm angle flange, 540i MAF housing, M4.4 VS DIY tune, wmi, Bilstein TCs, IPD sways, AEM boost and AFR gauges. Fun DD!

1998 S70 GLT, 140K miles, Bilstein TCs, IPD sways, do88 drop-in intercooler w/RIP. Want to do more mods but she says leave her car the f*** alone!?

I'll defend them

Better ignition system
ETS is a pain but no IAC or cruise control problems
Much better PCV

Thanks. I was just trying to get an idea of " parts car " pricing. My daughter will start driving soon and I was looking at S70 's as a first car. I found one locally for $ 1300, 166k miles. Doctors wife doesn't need it anymore. I would just use the running car price verses the bad running car price to get a good deal . Hopefully, I can get them both for under $ 1800-2000.

Unfortunately, a '99 is at the age where a lot of stuff like radiator, PCV, certain suspension components, everything plastic, etc. is cashing in. The general appearance of the car might give some idea of whether or not it was maintained mechanically--but, since it is still mostly unknown, even if it looked sharp, not more than $650 here in TX.

Hey, dosbricks. I totally understand what you are saying. My 2000 T5 took me through the Swedish wringer after I got it. Front end, PCV, hoses, oil leaks, Struts ,sensors, T Belt. I did most of the work myself .The car I'm looking at looks like your S70, but with spoiler and rims like my T5. I have a gut feeling it's a turbo. If so, that's good because turbos with issues make tote the note lots around here look to dump cars. What effect would the bad headgasket have on the rest of engine or turbo ? $650 is agood starting point.

'99 year model S70 and above are the model years when Ford got ahold of the reins in manufacturing of these cars. They are notorious for being cash cows. If you really want it, then I'd give them $ 500 and nothing more.

50 bucks over scrap value. Check your local weekly inkies and see what junk yards are giving for tow away.
