2007 XC Drivers seat swap

Post by lastcardjb »

i had a 2001 xc with really comfortable seats, have a 2007XC now and they've gotten harder and thinner - old ones were a full inch thicker which means better thigh support and no sciatica.
has anyone swapped seat bottoms - either entire set or just cover and underpad? can it be done. the back of the seat is fine.
Thoughts? I thought i could get an older seat cover with pad and mount it to new frame. is this possible? i don't think entire bottom will swap because of electricals .

It's extremely difficult. I have a spare seat and tried to remove the foam inside. The leather is clipped outside but also inside and those clips inside are hard to access, let alone to put back in place. What can be relatively easy is to add some stiff plate right under the seat, there are two adjustment metal bars and the plate can go between those bars and the bottom of the seat. It will keep the seat bottom up and firmer. Just careful with the wires/connectors underneath the seat.

As for the lumbar section, the lower back cover is easier removed, and some cushion can be inserted on top of the existing one.

I have a 2004 XC70 and I had removed the driver side leather seat cover from the foam so I could repair it. It was not technically difficult but it took some time and a lots of details. If you document the steps when you take them apart, you can put them back easily. There are some good DIY's on this, search around you will find them.

My is a little too soft in my taste and I thought about replacing them with firmer one. From what I read, there are two different types foams from Volvo. One is softer than the other. They are expensive and don't come with the seat heater. The seat heater is a separate part and it is difficult to put on to the foam properly. Because of that, I just live with what I have.
