Welcome!!!!
Which essentially remained unchanged from 2000 S/V70's for the most part.

OP, your top mount looks fine from here. Go after the "front" (lower) mount by the crank pulley first and see what that does for you.

Thanks everyone. I have decided to only replace the side mount today. Top one looks OK. I have very high hopes for reduction in vibration from this. I will post again in a couple of hours how it goes.

Success!! About 3 hours. Clearances for getting tools onto nuts by far was the biggest time issue. A couple of points for anyone else with my type of car ('01 C70 - part of this forum because it is so similar to other older cars listed here) (1) the shield inside the passenger wheel well does not have a crease nor can it be folded back flat against itself inside the well as so many of the videos show; I used a piece of 1x6 wood to wedge the folded shield out of the way as much as possible. However, with this thing in the way, getting a wrench on the right hand 17mm bolt is still tedious. I used both a socket and an open wrench (I did not have a shallow socket, only deep ones, which created a further problem). (2) try to place the jacking point for the engine oil pan as closely "in line" with the engine mount as possible; when I first raised mine, it twisted enough so that the 17mms would not go back in. I loosened the 14mms (2 in center top of the mount) after repositioning the jack to raise the engine straight up. Only then could I get

sorry for split posts...
Only after loosening the 2 14mms and re-raising the engine straighter upward could I get the two 17mms into their threads. This complication took about an hour of the three I had into the project.

This was the most rewarding auto repair project I've ever done in terms of immediate improvement even my wife noticed. Below is a picture of the old disintegrated mount. Thanks again to very helpful MVS Forum posters.

OK a few 1000 miles down the road and it is now time to replace the front and rear hydraulic mounts (cone shaped oil filled parts that are called "pads" in Volvo parlance). The front one is located on the front subframe cross member and two different diagrams place the rear one on the opposite or aft cross member but *I cannot find the rear hydraulic mount.* I did find out that my 2001 Volvo C70 is a 2.3 *not a 2.4* liter  and maybe that makes a difference. My wife volunteered that "maybe it's missing on your car" (it's only "my" car when having these kinds of discussions...) but I cannot see that the engine/transmission complex gets even close to the aft subframe cross member to even provide a place to beneficially balance or cushion anything there... What are the chances that my 2.3 liter car only has the one front hydraulic mount -- in addition to the usual compliment of other mounts: side, transmission torque and top mount...??

That mount you're looking for was right under the turbocharger on my 1998, but I think it moved slightly to the side for 1999+ model years.
