1997 Volvo 855 GLT Windshield Replacement recommendation req

Post by jreed »

The windshield on my '97 855 GLT needs to be replaced and I'm thinking of going to "Glass Masters" in Durham, NC. They seem to do business under a couple names including "Glass Masters", "Auto Glass Now" and "Auto Glass 4 U".

They have good reviews on Google and list Pilkington on their website. I'm going to give them a call and see what the price would be to install a new Pilkington windshield. I was wondering if anybody else has used these guys before, and if so, how did it go? Thanks.

I don't know about your area but where I live windshields are cheap! I just had one put in my '97 960 Wagon last week, $150 and they came to my house and did it, no extra charge. Same thing last year on my Saab 900, $150 and they came here. Was quoted the same price or more having to go to a glass shop and wait for it. Both seem to be excellent quality and match the factory markings.

Does anybody know if Sekurit is good quality?
I called Glass Masters and they quoted me $165 to install a Saint Gobain Sekurit windshield, which they claimed was OEM. The salesman said they also had 1 Pilkington windshield listed in stock but he wasn't sure it would be available when I came in to get it installed.
I know I have an original Pilkington in the car now, marked "'96" on my 1997. Is Sekurit any good? Thanks!

It has a very long (~2 meter) u-shaped crack that I fixed once before about 8 years ago and it has now begun extending again towards the edge of the windshield. It's right in the line of sight of the driver. I don't want to try to repair it again... I'm ready for a new one.
