2001 v70xc rear view mirror dimming problem
I got into my car and saw the oval bubble in my mirror. I'm not planning on fixing this but I am wondering if this will cause any other problems with the car. I searched here about the uem and how it controls the alarm, locks and starting of the car. I'm just wondering if I can leave it.

That bubble is just in the LCD portion of the mirror (dimming is done with liquid crystal display type method, which has a physical liquid inside it so you can get failures like that). It won't affect anything at all electrically. If it affects your visibility just get a clip-on mirror to place over if you don't want to fix.
As you found, you cannot just swap the mirror w/o reprogramming if you did want to fix. The cheapest fix is to buy another mirror & swap the electronics. There's some very detailed threads on fixing these (e.g. see https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=16275).

thanks for the link,,it was mentioned in some threads but i couldnt find it. I just looked at the mirror and the dark area is basically gone. So I'm back to a regular clear mirror. I dont know where the liquid went,,but i can deal with this.
