Auto dimming Rear View Mirror Retrofit

Post by m96ag »

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has ever retrofitted a auto dimming rear view mirror into their v70 preferably using the factory mount point. I saw it listed in a Volvo accessory catalog but I imagine that one is long discontinued.

If you can find one, most 2000s are pre wired. Not sure about 99s
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Here's a thought would a C70 mirror fit?

At first glance the mount points appear to be the same. So here goes nothing!

I pulled the courtesy light assembly down and don't see a connector. Is it tucked behind something?

Last year I replaced the busted (running fluids) OEM one in my '98 C70. The original unit was made by Donnelly, which appearantly supplies a lot OEMs with auto dimming mirrors. I found out that my model (model no. 011530) was used at least until 2005, for Acura TL's. As the fluid in these eventually all go bad, I'd suggest getting the youngest used one you can find.

For instance this one, matches mine. You'll have to replace the mirror assembly from the old non-auto dimming one (which is quite a pain - maybe there's a trick to it I didn't know) and the connectors.. or find a way around that. It basically just takes 12v I guess?

I ordered a C70 mirror. I just need to find out if my car came prewired with the connector. If not I'll have to use the accessory connector for switched power and ground and then tap the existing courtesy lights if I want those to work.
