Rear main seal, 1999 S70
The clutch/throwout bearing/RMS project was coming along, but after removing the flywheel the RMS does not resemble the ones in any photos I've seen anywhere. It looks like it's made of felt, no rubber flange is visible. I'm really having trouble keeping the drill where I want it and can't get a screw to get a grip on any hole I've started. Is there a different type of RMS than the rubber/steel/spring kind? I've searched.

How did you go with that seal?
The OEM Volvo RMS is that felt deal. I use a combination of prying with a large flat screwdriver and lots of cursing to get them out.

I've done the RMS job three times, and every time I've wimped out and asked my mechanic friend to come by and remove it with his seal puller tool. He also did some cursing and mucking about, and we had trouble with the drill.
