s70 fwd rear rotor replacement

Post by AVIP »

So since I bought this car the brakes screech from hell when warm. Bought new pads. Mechanic put em in and didn't fix it. Took it to meineke and they said all volvos stop like school buses. So when I moved I asked my friend and local professional mechanic and he said the rear rotors had a lip on them which makes a lot of sense and he showed me.

Usually the sound shows up on light braking around 30-20 all the way to stop. Sometimes if they are really hot they screech all the time.

So my question is I am looking at replacing the rotors before I sell it. Can get em about 20 bucks each. What special tools do I need for a rear rotor job? IIve never actually done the brakes on this car either so this is all new territory for me.

Some questions need to be answered:

Are the front or rear brakes squeaking?

What kind of pads are you running on the front and rear?

Volvo OE pads will squeak, and produce tons of dust. Not desirable.

Squeaking is almost never caused by the rotors. I think you're barking up the wrong tree. I've never had squeaking problems as long as everything was lubricated correctly and shims were installed on the rear pads. No special tools are required to replace the rear rotors.

It is probably the REAR pads.
Mintex is $25 and will be nice and quiet.

Rear brakes are squeaking. Got duralast gold cmax. And my mechanic greased all the moving parts. Pedal sat higher for a week. The pads squeaked when I bought it I assumed pads where bad.

Will post video tonight

Yeah,

My Duralast squeaked like a pig too.
So I listened to Ozark Lee and installed Mintex ---> nice and quiet.
Trust me, switch to Mintex and you will be happy like a bird.

It is a 5-min job/side once the wheel is off.
Make sure you put some anti-squeal compound on the back side of the pads, where they meet the piston.
