i recently pulled codes 1171 and 1174. i have not been able to find much info on either. i know 1171 is a "lean condition bank 1". i don't know anything about 1174.
can anybody shed any light on the cause and action(s) required for each? i will be checking vadis but have not had a chance.
thanks.
dtc 1171 and 1174

Hmmm....bank 1, I have always understood to be the front 02 sensor.
P1174 is "long-term fuel trim, upper limit." So, you are burning lean- too much air for the amount of gas. This is not a good thing and needs correcting. Could actually be an 02 sensor going out or some other condition- such as dirty fuel injectors, a dirty or bad MAF, etc. How is the car running otherwise? Oh, and it would be good to know which car you're speaking of, especially since it's required to start a thread. "Problem, year and model required for new Topics

Sounds good...you can also clear the codes to see if they come back. Sometimes things just get set on a fluke with these cars.

i have cleared it and it comes back. on my way home tonight i was thinking, if it is a lean condition, then the combustion chambers should be running hotter. could i expect to see an increase in operating temp? the temp seems to be normal.MadeInJapan wrote:Sounds good...you can also clear the codes to see if they come back. 1171 corresponds to volvo code ecm-261a and 1174 corresponds to ecm-260a. these are both upper limit faults.
according to vadis, potential causes could be the following;
intake air leak
exhaust air leak
low fuel pressure
faulty heat o2 sensor
i will begin checking this weekend.
