1989 240 DL Sleepy Odometer
One of my latest acquistions, in great condition: Odometer wasn't working when I got it (imagine that), so I did the usual gear replacement, quick and easy, fixed it! Worked fine for a couple months. Now when I start out in the mornings it takes 2-5 miles before odometer works. After that, never misses a beat, no matter how many times I stop or start. Never any issues with speedometer. Has anyone experienced this or have a suggestion on what it might be? I don't think it's a gear issue and it usually only happens after the car has sat for a few days and not been driven. Thanks.

My 740 had a similar issue with its odometer, I eventually found that the intermediate gear between the motor and the number dials was heavily gunked to its post and would cause it to stick. I let some cleaner soak on it for a bit, then put some light oil on it to free it out, then rolled the gears around by hand for a little bit to free it up. Not sure they are built quite the same but might be worth checking
