2000 Volvo S40 1.9L Engine Swap

Post by Baptiste1106 »

Seems like the S40 forum is ghost town to posts, so i figure maybe my 850 family can help me. 2000 Volvo S40 1.9L needs a engine swap easy to do? Figure it's the same as the 5 cylinder engine swap

The basics will be the same as an 850 engine swap - I don't know if an entire write-up exists here for the S40's, but a VIDA/VADIS installation may come in handy there. A handful here have taken on the task on the 5-cyl's after acquiring all the proper tools (and time to get through it!)

Get a 850 or S70 and we will help you :)

Try a Mitsui or Ford forum maybe as its not a true Volvo

Found this from a post in another forum.
It may help you with preliminary background of the engine options for S40/V40 ?

To carry on from Gmain's post... as a rule of thumb the early phase 1 T4 had the 1855cc unit with the phase 2 having the 1948cc unit, both T4 engines producing 200bhp/147Kw.

Phase I
1998 - B4194T = 1855cc (high pressure turbo)
1999 to 2000 - B4194T2 = 1855cc (hpt)

1998 to 2000 - B4204T 1948cc (low pressure turbo)

Phase II
2001 to 2003 - B4204T5 = 1948cc (hpt)

2001 to 2003 - B4204T3 = 1948cc (lpt)

i have not come across any writeup specifically for an engine transplant on a S40/V40.
The white sticker on the side of your timing belt cover should display the engine number/type
