2001 volvo rough idle to stalling out

Post by l0pesfrmsf »

Have a 2001 v70 thats ran great since we bought it a year ago its got a new timing belt ,water pump, alt, batt, and jus recently had all the fluids changed the only thing that we havent done is change the spark plugs. Can this cause the car to idle rough and stall out at stops? Which today is the 1st time this has happened, could it be some type of valve or sensor , we are concerned, also the service light came on about a month ago. This is our only car,we use it to shuffle our kids around and can't afford to be down for too long. Can anyone help shed some light on this?

You need to read the codes, at least with OBD-II reader. DiCE+VIDA is, of course, better.

Are you getting a service schedule notice or a engine malfunction notice? I dont know the exact terminology on the P2 cars but one is just a reminder and the other is telling you something is wrong

Worn out spark plugs will give you that stalling, as will many other things, though. A vacuum leak on an older car is a common problem

There are a lot of things that could cause that sort of behavior, but a classic one for that year is the electronic throttle module. I had mine replaced with the Xemodex unit, and it suddenly turned into a new vehicle; it's also a 2001, but a 2.4T S60. See the ETM postings on this forum.
