2002 S60 Both front wheels have play.

i bought them almost a year ago to the day, i bet there is less than 5K miles on them.

If you replace the control arms I would always replace the ball-joint as a matter of course. The cost is less than that of an alignment and the work needs to be done to replace anyway.

The inner and out tie-rods unfortunately do wear and at the mileage you are at they could be past their best. There is a fair bit of work in replacing the inners, but the outers are easier.

so i guess replacing the ball joints and tie rods are on my list, would those things cause the play that i am seeing?

Both will cause a vagueness with the steering, and a good chance of greater wear on your front tires.

I am fixing on doing the tierods on my '02 S60 while changing control arms and ball joints and a few other things.
Can anyone give some insight on the inner tirods; my concern is with the pipe wrench method without counterhold on the steering rack: Is there any risk of damaging the rack-and-pinion assembly by putting torque through it?
All videos I've seen show similar methods with no counterhold (as opposed to the VIDA procedure which calls for the special counterhold tool)

(This may seem on the paranoid side but I would welcome any input.) Thanks in advance.

i am going to rent a inner tie rod tool from an auto parts store. Also going to use some PB Blaster and let it soak before I attempt to remove it.

Well, does the tool include the counterhold? Like I mentioned, I am not comfortable with putting stress on the rack itself when undoing and installing the tierod
