I need some help regarding a purchase I will be making. Specifically, I am debating whether to get a mid to higher milage XC90 or XC70, but I have so direct experience with the reliability of those models and their components. The AWD systems concern me somewhat, as those are unlikely to be inexpensive fixes. Basically I need a nice, safe car capable of three row seating and with four/all wheel drive for my wife and kids.
I have a 1998 Volvo S70 GLT with 19x,000 miles and have been overall very impressed with it. I have had some high milage things go on it, but nothing that bad and it still runs like new. However it is FWD and therefore I am unsure of how problematic the AWD systems are at high mileage.
Thanks

I haven't always heard good things about the AWD systems, unless you really need it, id stick with FWD...

The AWD systems from 2003 on are fine where wagons are concerned. They began using Haldex in 2003 in XC series and 2002 in S60 series.
Of course like all diffetentials they like clean fluid and attention to finding leaks when they are early.
The preceding years were fragile and delicate.
