2004 S60 2.4NA Exhaust Cam Oil Leak

Post by stallhagen »

I have a non-turbo S60 with 125,000 miles which leaks oil behind the exhaust camshaft (CVVT) seal.

I have replaced the camshaft seal twice already, but it keeps leaking. Now it's leaking at a pace of 1qt/50miles, which makes driving longer distances more difficult, and the car starts dripping oil the moment I stop.

I have examined the VVT pulley, and the surfaces and the o-ring seem fine, but I haven't tried changing it yet. There doesn't seem to be any positive pressure coming out of the dipstick which would cause it to leak. The only thing that lessens the leak is disconnecting the Solenoid/Reset valve, but then I get a perpetual Check Engine light.

All help appreciated.
