Well, after I got my 99 V70XC up and running again, I felt it was time to say farewell to the old girl before she showed her temperamental side again. I saw a beautiful 2008 S80 V8 down at the Volvo dealership and by the end of the afternoon she was mine. Nice combination of the Oyster Grey and Tan interior (don't remember the official name of for the color). I can already tell the cooled seats will be much appreciated in the summer and my daughter is excited that I now have a car that has heated seats in the rear for her. The V8 may be thirsty, but it's quite competent at getting me up to speed. After getting the 3.2 in our XC90 I'm glad to have the larger engine in this one.
The only problem is that my wife loves it so much, it's entirely possible that I'll end up with the XC90 and she'll have my new one. Can't really lose either way.

Lovely car and FAST.
I will tell you an Achilles heel of the V8: the serpentine belt pulleys. The belt and the pulleys should be serviced at 75-80 K miles. You can replace pulleys but since they are steel and really don't wear from belt contact I prefer to drive out the bearings and replace them. The bearings are readily available at NAPA, etc. The number is 203FF in National Bearing brand. 17mm ID x 40 mm OD x 12mm wide. (this bearing fits alternators and is also the mostly widely used bearing serp pulley rollers for import and domestic if they are metal and have serviceable bearings)
The bearings can fail and if they lock it can break the timing chain cover. So a $200 or less job turns into $2000+ if the cover needs to be replaced
