2000 V40 Radio replacement/upgrade

Post by olddaddy »

The stock radio on our 2000 V40 is giving up the ghost. It jumps off station and sometimes won't play at all. I picked up a used one at a swap meet, but it's for a 2001 and does not interchange. What aftermarket radio can you guys recommend, and what installation kit is needed? We are not high end audiophiles, just want good music and news in the V40.

Have you tried looking on ebay?
Usually a number of used Volvo radio units are for sale. You may find one in the same model as yours or a compatible one thats fits the central console setup you have.
Make sure it has its correct unique security code number with it however or it wont go in your car.

I did look on ebay, but I am hesitant to buy another fourteen year old radio that may or may not have the same or other problems as mine.....I guess I need to find out what aftermarket radio can be installed unless somebody reconditions the originals.

Personally, I would rather stick to a genuine Volvo unit for origial appearance reasons.
The aftermarket ones just dont look the part in an older Volvo.
Your point about the fitting of used replacements is of course very correct and relevant.
