2008 S60 engine hood latch do not lock

Post by gpetersenjr »

I have a 2008 S60. About a month ago the cable for the hood latch release broke. I replaced removed, cleaned and re-installed the left side and the right side hood latches and all seemed to be fine.

Yesterday, I opened the hood for general inspection, check oil, etc. Problem is the hood latches won't engage and the hood will not lock in place. I removed both latches, cleaned and re-lubricated and re-installed. But still have the same problem that the latches won't engage.

Tried manually to lock each of the hood latches - seems that some times the latches will not lock - as if the lock hasn't reset. You can press the latch down but it will not lock. Play around with the cable linkage and then tried to manually lock the latch and it would lock.

Re-installed the two hood latched and closed the hood and it locked. Then opened the hood to test the cable and latch, the hood opened, but now the hood won't lock. I think my problem might be the the cable connection to each of the latches - appears there are several ways to connect the cable to the latches and several groves in the actuating arm to fit the cable and bead.

I didn't photograph the cable and it's attachment prior to removing the broken cable - does anyone have a diagram or a detail showing the best linkage arrangement for attaching the hood release cable to the left and right hood latch.

Thanks,

George
