1995 850 turbo wagon front end collision

Post by Niamhsdad »

Today i rear ended a Chevy Malibu, my bumper slid right under the back of the malibu.... it barely did any damage to his car, however, i crumpled my hood, crumpled the right fender, radiator, ac cooler, pass.. headlight pretty much gone, my question is, after removing the fender, i found that where the black fiberglass cross bar, the one the radiator attaches to was destroyed, and and the impact crushed to whole bit that the inner fender attaches to and the black cross bar.. can i cut it out and weld in a new piece, or is that part integral to the structure of the uni-body, or whatever you would call this cars frame... i will try to post pics, soon.. im still really pissed.. so i hope i made sense here... an 88 year old man came to a screeching halt on the on ramp onto the high way for no reason, and i hit him, and got a ticket.... any info would be helpful

It might be worth posting a good Volvo body shop recommendation in the Garages/Mechanics Section

Sorry about the car - when I do a goof like this I repair the car because I think I owe it something..

Structurally that part of the chassis isn't that big of a deal but it might be cheaper and easier to yank it back out rather than cutting and welding. You can see it and we can't so you will need to make the call.

Did your air bags deploy?

If not, the chassis structure should be fine, unlike my 1993 that I could not let go. Hood, fenders, lighting, header panel, radiator, and assorted small pieces will be needed.

See this thread for my case.

If you have the inclination, and want to keep the car.

EDIT: I now see the photo that did not show up when I first viewed.

I am curious to see the top motor mount. if it was crumpled by the impact then there may be some other damage that would not be worth the time and money.
There will be some creative unibody work to be done for sure. There is a thread to search for other than mine, showing that unibody repair in the fender area.

Thanks for the edit.. the top motor mount was damaged, once i calmed down and looked a little closer i realized just how bad off it is... As much as it pains me, i have to look for another 850 wagon... I am going to miss mine, it had 338,000 on it.. i loved that car,
If anyone knows of one for sale in the Virginia area, please let me know
