2008 S40 - Another Leaking Moonroof

A family member of mine has a leaking moonroof on his Volvo S40. I'v read up on how to help fix the issue jerry rigging new plastic tubing and replacing the faulty elbow tube Volvo used. I'm wondering if this fix will work permanently as I've read some people claim they still have issues with the leaking moonroof (or sunroof) even after attempting to fix it.

Also it seems like the car is having electrical issues since because of the water getting into the car. Has anyone had luck in convincing Volvo to cover the repair costs? It's ridiculous they haven't.

Appreciate any advice or suggestions from Volvo owners that have also had this dreaded Leaking Moonroof problem.

Two years ago, a backed up left drainage tube caused a leak into my drivers footwell soaking the carpet and making a puddle. Ever since I've had my mechanic clear out the tubes every spring and fall preventively and I haven't had the problem again. I'm hoping the regular preventative maintenance will be the charm.

Don't forget that there are two more joints in each foreward drain tube up by the sunroof. If you pull on the downtube too hard (or put too much air pressure into a blocked tube) they can come off.

Dry what you can and finish with three days of forced ventilation.

My first reaction on electrical issues is the battery and connectors. A 2008 is about due... OTOH, is there corrosion all over the seat frames, etc.?

Thanks @mf70. I haven't had a chance to take apart the car and check for corrosion.

Yeah, loose or corroded connectors is always a good place to start. I was told the trunk was not opening anymore.
