Eric's post s comprehensive on the system but the 1999 components are located in different places. Troubleshooting is the same though. See diagram above for 1999.

Does anyone have a diagram of the fuel tank connections (from rollover valve back) on the 1999 models ?

Well after clearing the code, I replaced the gas cap (annoyed that the replacement off eBay does not have the retaining ring and strap although it is Blau and he quoted the Volvo part number...). I have partially fueled up twice (not by design but by accident) and just did a second longish trip in the car--probably 350 miles in total.

No CEL--so maybe the second hose was the charm--or in combination with the gas cap (the danger of doing more than one thing at a time).

Time to see if it will pass the test and I can get legal!

Good luck! With a 1999, in upstate Ny, you can pass the emissions test with up to 2 monitors not ready, so if you clear your CEL, drive long enough to ready all the monitors except the evap, you can pass inpection

It turns out to be 42 miles, as predicted by the Hitchikers Guide.
