2003 S80 T6 Throttle Pulses

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2003 S80 T6 Throttle Pulses

Post by johnstds »

Hello, I bought a 2003 Volvo S80 T6 in January. I love the car (when it is working correctly). One issue that it recently developed is that when I press the throttle more than about half way the throttle pulses... on off.. on off... I'm not sure what is causing this and I haven't had a chance to really look at the car yet... school keeps me busy. When I put injector cleaner in it the car seems to run better but the issue doesn't fully go away but that might just be a placebo. Any help would be appreciated.

What's likely happening is the boost is fluctuating.

This can be caused by a charge air tube leak, TCV getting weak/clogged, etc.

Chasing leaks the old fashioned way only works for the biggest of leaks, if that. The ME7 is that good at hiding it. Next best thing is to build one of these:

TCV is hit and miss on the aftermarket stuff. The current trend is to go for the OE valve.

Thanks,

I replaced the TCV and that fixed it.
