General question re VIDA software

Post by cn90 »

I recently got a 2005 XC90 2.5T, since this forum has more software gurus than the XC90 crowd, I'd ask here instead...

1. Source to buy VIDA software.

2. Some places sell it and state that I need Windows 7. I only have Windows XP at home.

3. What laptop specs do I need?

Any links will be great (which is reputable seller, software, connectors etc.).

Purchased mine (ver. 2013A) on eBay and it only works on Windows XP (I believe pro edition). The laptop and OS version is very picky and hard to get working from what I've read so I bought an old Dell laptop from someone else who already had it DICE/VIDA running. Works great!

Is it JUST the software you need or do you need the diagnostic Dice tool as well?

AliExpress. Seller's store name is Shenzhen Zeuss. Contact Mandy Deng. They've shipped over 5 of them to my customers and all of them within a week via DHL.

All of them work flawlessly on XP or Win 7 Pro.

2GB ram is preferable. A full speed processor (not a Celeron) is also preferred.

cn90,

I am looking to make the same purchase. Tired of chasing the P1132 code I have. Smoke test tomorrow.

I have 99 S70 T5 and 2006 XC90. Can use the same setup on both.

I have been reading all week about the software install. It is very picky about how it is installed. I have a few good links that has some good information I will PM you. May save you some time searching/reading. Those that are able to get it up and running seem very happy. I plan to get a dedicated laptop to run it on. Have an old Dell somewhere around here that I hope will suffice.

Precopster has had good luck with the link below. From what I have read, he has purchased several from them and had good luck. There are a places that sell it a bit cheaper. Not worth saving a few bucks in my opinion if he has had good luck with this seller. I know, OPM (other peoples money) is easy to spend.

Please post if you purchase.

Looks like they began selling 2013A which has Win 7 support only.

You can always run the XP image on ANY OS and still operate the Dice from the image: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=55027

I run the iamge on 2 Pcs and the full version on my work laptop

A few years ago, I bought "Carsoft" software for my 1998 BMW 528i, in that package there are:
- Round connector for BMW
- Rectangular connector for OBD-II near driver's foot area

Since I already own:
- Laptop
- Hardware (USB cable, OBD-II connector etc.)

I wonder if I can simply buy the DVD software for Volvo and use my existing hardware setup?

This is what I have right now for my BMW...

The Dice interface tool is unique to the Volvo vehicle. Only this tool and one other I know of will interface with it. What is the name of the BMW interface tool exactly?

You can use other standalone scanners on Volvos of course like the Autel EU-702

The BMW tool is "Carsoft", sorry I don't know the name of the rectangular box!

I have another question for the gurus...

Since I already own an Actron OBD-II scanner, is there any advantage of buying Volvo DiCE tool?
In other words, what can Volvo DiCE tool diagnose that the standard OBD-II tool cannot do?
