I listened to the video clip, it seemed fine to me, but again as others have said, you may want to remove the serp belt and run the engine and see if the noise goes away (don't worry about the alternator light when the serp belt is out of the car...).

On the issue of silicone spray for belt, I have found it to be useful for about 1-2 days. After that what matters is:
- Quality of the belt, OEM or Conti is the way to go.
- Bearings of the pulley: are they OK?
- Tensioner must be strong enough to apply adequate tension.

I took the timing cover off and the whining now gets a little more worse when the engine warms up. At 1500 2000 rpm i hear a crackling with the whine and i attempted to twist the belt and it doesnt go to 90 degrees from the exhaust cam to water pump. Too tight?

I suspect the tensioner roller but the mechanic guarantees it was changed.

I attached a pic from the tensioner roller area. The thing is i dont think the roller and the tensioner are new because the have some kind of grime looking used parts.

Next month im on vacation and maybe i will consider to take the car to the volvo dealer to sort this out.

Story is you get what you pay when you want to save some on repairs.

I don't know your odometer, how many kilometers on it?

At 150K miles, I did everything:
- Aisin water pump
- Tensioner
- Both rolelrs
- TB

The parts look new to me but that doesn't mean they are good. If it is making noise, the installer should take it apart and double check the parts. It would take 30 minutes to remove either roller, check it for binding and smoothness and reinstall it.

I did a timing belt for someone Thursday and when I turned the crank around a few times by hand, it was clear that the exhaust cam was 1 tooth off. So I pulled the tensioner, bumped the cam sprocket 1 tooth, and re-installed the tensioner. Took all of 30 minutes.

The tensioner pulley is clearly rusted. It does not look new.
I just did my wagon two months ago. The one I changed out looks better than the one pictured.(not the one in your video)

The mechanic got offended when i emailed him asking that if he really changed the rollers with brand new parts.

Then he called me asking to take the car to his shop again so he can strip it down part by part in front of me and checking testing every single part.

He insists and bets a million it is related with the serpentine belt new routing and that the serp belt idler roller may be defective.

I believe the guy knows what he is doing. He owns 4 volvos (850R, v70 t5, s60 t5 and s40 t4) and he only works with volvos as well ECU remaps.

Then have him show you the parts he takes off, looks old to me as well. You can isolate the noise with a oil can with a long nozzle and lubricate the centre of bearings until noise disappears, it will tell you which one is noisy. The idler pulley has a cap you need to remove on access drive

The re-routing could definitely cause new sounds, especially if a pulley ( idler/tensioner ) is rotating in a different direction than before.
If you run it with the serpentine belt off, you will know for sure.

OK...

So we took out the serpentine belt and turned the engine. Noise still there. So its not the serp belt and related pulleys.

Checked every single part from the timing belt system. Everything ok and the parts are new indeed.

The machanic said that the belt is in fact a bit tight but thats because the belt is brand new and only made about 100km. The thing i noticed was that the belt had some places that were rubbed on the side but nothing serious.

As i got home i remembered that these engines require specific part numbers regarding the engine number. Are the water pumps the same for every model year? Is there a water pump with a bigger pulley for these engines?

Now im affraid that he installed a water pump with a bigger pulley that is creating more tension on the belt...

Im out of ideas guys.

Im going to run about 500km with this belt kit and see if it settles down like the mechanic said first time.

If it stays the same or worse i will get a genuine volvo kit from the dealer and change it again.
