I purchased a VOLVO S70 turbo for my daughter and had to fix many parts on it already. The last and most troublesome to fix is the ETM light . I have read all these forums and don't have any of the symptoms described except the light is on and the car is difficult to start.
I have had the codes scanned at AZ but no codes show up. I have cleaned the ETM with carb cleaner but the light stayed on. The only symptom I have is that it is difficult to start. Takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes before it will turn over and stay running. Once running, it drives great. I don't have any hunting or noticeable RTM issues. After sitting for a week while on vacation, the car started fine for about 3-4 days (with light still on) but now the starting issue is back.
I should also note that one of the earlier codes was on the Camshaft Solenoid so I cleaned it and replaced the gasket. Those codes went away.
I took it to the dealer for a "free" one hour diagnosis, but they said I should start with replacing the ETM but couldn't tell me if that would fix the problem. So before I spend $500 on a new ETM, is the starting issue with no other issues a symptom of the ETM? Is there anything else I should look at?
Thank You

An ETM can be totally electrically disconnected and the car will start and run (however it will be very rich with little air mixing with fuel)
The idle will be very rough and acceleration poor.
Have you replaced spark plugs and regapped them?
The scanner the garage used was not capable of reading your Volvo correctly. If the ETS light is on there will be a code in there that will point to the cause. Have the car read by an independant Volvo garage that can provide you with a list of codes or purchase Vida Dice or an Autel EU-702.

Thank you for the reply. I took it to a local dealer and they didn't give me any codes off their system. They only said to replace the etm but couldn't guarantee that would fix it. I received the ETM sensor from Xmodex so I replaced it today. the light when out and acceleration and idol is much better and it is starting on the first try. Drove for about 15 miles and the light hasn't come back on yet. Hopefully this will fix it.
Thank you
Thank you
