Having an issue with the ignition switch. Last year I replaced the entire mechanism and switch with one from my donor car. Was from a 99, so it wasn't exactly the same, but my dremel grinder took care of that. That was done to fix the "spinning key" issue.
Here's the issues. Sometimes the dash lights, headlights, or turn signals won't work. Sometimes all three, sometimes just one. Also, sometimes it wouldn't get out of park without pressing the override button. I discovered that turning the key backwards fixed all the issues. I'd live with that as a temp fix, except it is primarily driven by my daughter and I don't want her to accidentally switch off the ignition while driving. Is there any way to fix it? I was thinking of oiling it, but with the previous spinning key issue behind us, I'm afraid to do anything.
Also, does anyone know how to re key the ignition? I couldn't figure out how to get the cylinder out short of sawing the mechanism in half.
TIA
Rob

It sounds like the electrical part of the switch is bad. 10 years is past time for them to fail
