2003 S60 PCV Replacement Issue

Post by Chriss60 »

Hello,

I just completed the replacement of my oil sluggy PCV Breather box system. Well, the replacement was able to stop the whistle sound that was coming from the engine, but now the car will not idle properly in fact after start up it stalls completely. if I disconnect the MAF (brand new) and the ETM sensor, it runs but the idle is still erratic, there is also a bad sound now coming from the muffler.

And guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

The whistle that has stopped is because your old PCV tank had a valve inside it to control the vac in the system, when it fails there is excess vac which causes air to be sucked through the cam seals making the whistle noise.
Did you fully clear out the lower port in the engine block where the PCV tank connects to, if this is still blocked the new PCV tank will fill up with oil. Also I would double check all the hose connections you have had off the car as a large air leak in to the PCV system will screw up how the engine is running - Mike

There is also an oil passage inside the oil pan that gets clogged - the pan has to be removed

When replacing the air intake, the intake gasket must be replaced or it might create a vacuum leak. Some rtv (O2 sensor safe) can help.
