2005 XC90 2.5T "Anti-Skid temporarily off"

Post by cn90 »

Hi software gurus,

2005 XC90 2.5T dash intermittent message: "Anti-Skid temporarily off".
I did some search and will need to read the codes first.

I have standard Actron OBD-II scanner which is probably no good for this purpose.
Does anyone know what software/hardware I need to read Volvo proprietary error codes?

Link for particular software/pricing would be great!

When did this message come on?
The temporary part usually means overheat of brake rotors has been computed. There are no rotor temp sensors but the BCM can track system (not foot pedal) apply time and use a temp gain per time unit and the cool down per time and speed to decide if the traction functionality has applied the brakes enough that risk of brake fade might occur. Then the traction features are off temporarily until cool down occurs.

Thanks jimmy,

The "Anti-Skid temporarily off" message appears intermittently, I'd say once every 2-3 days when I drive 16 miles to work and 16 miles home.

I hope it is not a DEM (Differential Electronic Module) issue.

The exact wording of the message was: "Anti-skid service required".

My question is: if I want to find out the exact cause, what software do I need? VIDA, VICE etc.?

Yes a DICE diagnostic tool and VIDA the software to communicate with it from a laptop. (or something similar that can talk to the many different modules in the XC)

Does anyone know when this message "Anti-Skid temporarily off" is on, does the AWD system functions such as on snow/ice or is it only FWD when this message is on?

I am not 100% (but 85+), this makes the ABS turn off for both FWD and AWD, for the AWD not having the ABS would also disable the haldex pump or the DEM to remain uncoupled because the system cannot determine what wheel is slipping and where to send torque to.

So, when I see this message "Anti-Skid temporarily off", does it mean:
- I have no ABS
- I have no AWD

Is that true.

Too bad it is now summer ---> I cannot test any of these ABS and AWD features.
If this is now winter with snow on the road, I can test it right away!

That's correct. for AWD both things would happen.

OK,

Same issue "Anti-Skid Service Required", Used VIDA/DICE and got code BCM-0109.
I have read many threads and this code seems to point to Clockspring (a $260 part!).

I don't mind spending $260 (I can replace this myself) but the $1M question is: for those of you with BCM-0109, how many of you solved the problem by replacing the clockspring?

I hate to spend $260, only to find out the problem is elsewhere!

Any opinion is appreciated!
