1999 v70 Chasing codes, ETM, MAF

Post by dbjhouse »

So, this started with my car just dying in the road, just stalled out. ETM light was on at this time as well as the CEL (known O2 sensor issue). I had not had ETM symptoms such as uneven idle or anything. The car ran like a champ.
Got it started again to a safe place and had it idling for some time until a major radiator leak was noticed when pressure built up in the system. Replaced the radiator with no incident. Stalling problem still persisted.
Bit the bullet and replaced the ETM module via XeModex. I also replaced the MAF at this time. Stalling problem still persisted and seemingly getting worse. The car would run for about 3 minutes. I would hear a clicking noise coming from the dashboard like a switch was turning on/off and then the engine would die. I replaced the Engine Management Relay. Stalling persisted.
I got hold of a Code Reader and the Immobilzer Code came up. I replaced the Antenna Ring around the ignition. At this moment, the car doesnt even turn over, just clicks from the starter. I'm now getting a P0562 (low system voltage) but I'm guessing that is just from running the battery without the motor.
Bottom line, what do I do next? Is there a "anti-theft" system thats overriding everything? Do I have a bad ECM (brain). I'm at a total loss. No other codes are coming up. Worst of all my Volvo loyalty is running thin.

Hooked my charger to the battery. P0562 code is gone, but the the P1081 (Immobilzer) code is back. I can hear the fuel pump switch on when I turn the key to position 2 so the car should be getting fuel . This is just crazy.

Another update or rather inquiry...Could a bad O2 sensor render the car unstartable? Seems like that shouldn't happen, but at this point anything is believable.

It wouldn't cause a no-start. Get that battery up to full charge before you continue troubleshooting

Is there something with a "fuel delivery system"? My last effort is to have a friend tow me to the top of my street (a big hill) and I'm gonna try to pop the engine since its a manual transmission.

If the car starts on a 1999, the immobilizer is functioning.

Charge battery to full and start at compression with the full no-start troubleshooting flowchart. Modern cars don't respond well to guessing at problems.
