94 Volvo 850 T5 Tie Rod Stuck to Steering knuckle?

Post by Volvofan94 »

Hey MVS,

My project this week has been replacing the front lower suspension on my 850 Turbo, but I'm running into an issue removing the passenger outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

The theaded part that goes into the steering knuckle doesn't want to separate so I can replace the tie rod end. I've tried many things, liquid wrench, hitting it with a dead blow hammer, putting some heat on the steering knuckle and liquid wrench then hammering, and using a pickle fork. Can't seem to make it budge. :x

Has anyone ran into this issue before? If so, how did you get them separated?

Thanks!

I think when I did it I lightly pried on the open slot behind the joint with the bolt removed. When I rebolted the new one back in it closed it back up..

The final solution is to go rent/borrow/buy a press out tool from Advance which will push the end out with threaded force. If that fails, bring it to a shop with a case of beer and have them pop it, grease it, and then reconnect for the trip home.
