Re: 1998 MAF replacement Bosch or Other?

Post by gentlejax »

rspi wrote:Now back to the MAF, come on GentleJax, you have been around a while. You have read and posted enough threads to know that there is NO OTHER recommended MAF's out there. It's Bosch or bust, all others are hit or miss, mostly miss. As for me springing for a new $195 Bosch MAF, as my initial post suggest, the jy is full of newish Bosch MAF's and I have harvested several of them over the past year. Most of the P80 cars share the same exact one so they are easier to find than not.

I havnt read anything about mafs till yesterday and last night..dont know why you say that. even then I had to search for it.

I will buy a bosch maf when I buy one but if I can pay $100 for it I will , dont know where you get $195 for one from but thats my point right there. I can source a "bosch" for $100 but you think I should pay $195 and I dont.

ALready told you, I Have 5 junkyards maybe 6 in my area and there might be 4 volvos in them total. I had a t5 local and they got rid of it before I had issues with the etm.

I have never seen a Bosch MAF for $100, maybe it's a reman part. I shop, I mean check part prices on iPd and FCP a lot so that is where I got $195 from.

IPD on top of page here ..$110 ...

http://www.ipdusa.com/products/6581/110 ... low-sensor

FCP for less than $100

so thats why I ask questions. while you would pay $200 apparently I wont. both parts are listed as Bosch

Bosch for 1993-1998 is a different PN than 1999+.
Thus the price difference.

Gotta chime in. I've been running reman Cardone MAF sensors from Autozone in all three of my Volvos (two of which are turbos). The oldest one is about 16 months old and I've had no problems. I've put probably 20,000 miles on that sensor. I understand everyone's experience is different and that perhaps I'm lucky (knock on wood) but I've not had any problems.

That's the rub - with a reman or other non-Bosch MAF you just don't know what you will get. For some they are fine but many people have had them be useless. No one has ever had trouble with a Bosch unit unless it was already old enough to be worn out.

The remans seem to be hit and miss, overall. I have definitely read about Cardone remans with Bosch inserts, that did not work. Reman Bosch I don;t know about offhand but I can tell you there wasn't a surge in posts about them in the last ten years. If there is a way to be sure, I have not yet seen it explained.
