2005 V70 Timing belt interval

Tidbit from the manual....flame suit on...
***** Models identified by engine VIN codes 39 & 64 sold in California, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and Maine are classified as PZEV vehicles. The timing belt and tensioner replacement interval for these vehicles only is 15 years or 150,000 miles / 240,000 kilometers.

More items added to the famous list of 'lifetime components'... :lol:
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

I did a little research on this because I was curious. pZEV vehicles get manufacturers credits towards green manufacturing but in order to qualify as a PZEV vehicle all emission control related equipment carries a 150000 mile 15 year warranty.

The mechanical difference between these vehicles and a non-PZEV a Volvo is.....diddle squat.

I will be servicing my 2005 on the 100k 10 year interval.

That's right.
We all know that the design engineers did not invent Lifietime Parts and Fluids, the accountants did... only to ensure that the stealerships and Manufacturers of replacement engines, transmissions, power steering pumps and gear, etc. stay employed. What a pity...

120K is the factory recommended interval (or 10 years)
I never let one go longer than 105K if I can help it

What is the factory recommendation for the 2nd/3rd TB intervals? At Lexus it's done during a 90k service(we suggest WP/tensioner @this visit) visit then we recommend every 60k-70k but service writers have hard timing selling that service. Most of the owners trade in for a newer model b4 it even reaches the 2nd TB service, except for the RX300(owners seem to keep those 4 a while). Anyway, my '04 XC70 had TB changed @109,000 and I want to know when guys on here are doing them for the 2nd service.

105K-210K-315K miles, etc.
the next would be at 210K

If you go by the book and use a 120K interval then, 120K-240K-360K miles, etc.
Water pump every other T belt change, some people like to do it every change

Here's the Volvo US bulletin about timing belt intervals.

It seems 2003-2004 were crossover years to higher 120K on most models but not all.
