this sounds like something rubbing against something else. turn the wheel to the left and look in the wheel well for things that could be rubbing against the strut, the spindle, the control arm, or the tie rod. push up and down on the fender or bumper to make the car bounce: perhaps it's not the brakes making the noise, but the nose pitching with deceleration, which could explain the second, quieter spongiform utterance when you let go of the brake.
